MEET PENNSYLVANIA BROADBAND RECEPTION

BCAP's "Meet Pennsylvania Broadband" reception for freshman House and Senate members was held February 12, 2013 at the Hilton Harrisburg, attracting a large contingent of newly-elected legislators, caucus leaders, rank-and-file members and staff. The reception concluded a successful GRIP (Grassroots Legislative Program) Day that included a member briefing, at BCAP offices, of current Capitol Hill activity impacting Pennsylvania's cable industry. A huge thank you goes out to the companies that provided product demonstrations through exhibits at the reception, including Cable Services Co., Comcast Internet Essentials, NBCUniversal, Outdoor Channel, Pace, PCN, RLTV and ROOT SPORTS. The demos gave legislators a first-hand look at cable technology and programming, and served as an invaluable supplement to GRIP members' educational efforts with Pennsylvania policymakers.

BROADBAND TECHXPO

Legislators enjoyed an up-close-and-personal look at our industry's most timely, cutting-edge broadband products and services at BCAP Broadband TechXpo, held at the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in downtown Harrisburg on February 7, 2012. Surrounded by various product demos and hands-on exhibits, guests were also entertained by former Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies All-Star pitcher Kent Tekulve, on the mound for the final out of the 1979 World Series won by the Pirates. The event followed an afternoon briefing for members of BCAP's Grassroots Legislative Program (GRIP), which included remarks from Sen. Pat Browne (R-Lehigh) and a presentation from Brian Barno, BCAP Vice President, Government Affairs.

EITC

Two private schools in York County were the recipients in November of a combined $205,345 grant from the Pennsylvania Cable & Telecommunications Foundation, distributing the funds through the Commonwealth's "Education Improvement and Tax Credit" (EITC) Program. Through donations made by former Association Chairman Bill Domurad, York Catholic High School and St. Joseph School in Dallastown received checks in ceremonies attended by Rep. Stan Saylor (R-York). "Bill's generous help and commitment to this effort will benefit students who otherwise might not be able to attend these schools," said Dan Tunnell, BCAP President, during the ceremony.
