The state Senate approved a $27 billion budget for fiscal year 2007-08 today by a 49-1 vote. The proposal represents a $709 million increase from last year’s spending plan. It calls for $344 million less in spending than the governor’s proposed budget, according to a written statement from the office of Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi (R-Chester and Delaware counties).

Apple TV isn't going to add much to the iPod and Mac maker's riches, according to a market research company that took apart Apple Inc.'s newest gadget. The wireless streaming video device with a 40-gigabyte hard drive sells for $299 but costs an estimated $237 to make, excluding packaging and marketing expenses, said iSuppli Corp., which has conducted similar breakdowns for other gadgets.

Four more Internet service providers will start charging banks, e-commerce sites and other large e-mail senders for guaranteed delivery. In deals expected to be announced Thursday, Goodmail Systems Inc. is expanding its CertifiedEmail program to Comcast Corp., Cox Communications Inc., Time Warner Cable Inc.'s Road Runner and Verizon Communications Inc. Yahoo Inc. and Time Warner Inc.'s AOL became inaugural participants last year.
