A post-"Battlestar Galactica" Sci Fi Channel is quickly scrambling to rebrand itself as much more than just a science fiction cable network by changing its name to Syfy, and one of the channel's founders is not happy about it. Exclusively at Hollywood.com, what looks to be the first of many letters from Sci Fi co-founder Mitch Rubenstein was posted. Rubenstein launched the channel with Laurie Silvers, and they now own Hollywood.com.

Verizon New Jersey failed to come through with advertised promotions such as free flat-screen televisions for customers who signed up for its FiOS television, telephone and Internet services, the state said Wednesday. In a lawsuit filed by the state Attorney General's Office, Verizon New Jersey is accused of "deceptive and misleading" marketing, sales, billing and customer service practices.

Cable and big phone companies have a message for federal officials overseeing $7.2 billion in stimulus money set aside for new high-speed Internet lines: Don't use the money to subsidize upstarts planning to compete with existing broadband services. Stimulus money should be used for "extending broadband [service] to unserved areas," the cable industry's lobbying group emphasized in a letter to members of Congress last week.
